The Walker’s Haute Route is one of the world’s great multi-day treks, taking a linear route across the Alps and linking the famous mountaineering capitals of Chamonix and Zermatt.
We have designed this highlights trip so that you can see the best of the Haute Route by taking several transfers along the way. Although the walking is demanding at times (and more difficult than the Tour du Mont Blanc), the trek provides a non-technical route from Chamonix to Zermatt and is suitable for people who would like to experience the very best walking in the Alps without having to trek on glaciers.
En-route, we pass beneath 10 of the 12 highest peaks in the Alps and cross a number of high and challenging passes. The lower parts of the trek takes us through pretty mountain farming hamlets and flower-strewn meadows. We follow good paths and tracks over mountain passes close to 3000 m (10,000 ft) and journey through both picturesque valleys, and high mountain wilderness.
This trip combines luggage support, good hotels, auberges and mountain huts with showers and good facilities throughout, making for as comfortable a trip as possible. We have access to luggage on all but 2 nights. It’s a truly superb trek condensed into 7 days of walking where you experience the true highlights of one of the world’s most spectacular high mountain routes.
We have graded this trip 8 out of 10 for difficulty: Challenging
